Herbert Raymond Shelton, 77
Herbert Raymond Shelton, 77, of Kennard died June 4, 2000 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 8 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brewer-Korisko Funeral Home in Omaha, with a Purple Heart Service scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Services will be held Friday, June 9 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Brewer-Korisko Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Herman cemetery.
Herbert was born March 10, 1923 in Macedonia, Iowa.
He was a POW in Japan for three and a half years. He was a life-long member of Purple Heart 260, POW Chapter 1, DAV General McArthur Chapter 2, MCA-Marine Corps League, American Defender of Bataan and Corregidor, VF Post 1251, and NCOA Officer Association.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 374, FOE Aerie 38, Royal Arch Mason-Omaha Chapter 1, and Master Mason NE Lodge #1 AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert and Terri Shelton of Herman and Shawn and Tracy Shelton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Jim Jarecke of LaVista; a daughter, Betts Rowden of Colorado Springs; a brother, Donald Shelton, 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, and two sisters.
Brewer-Korisko Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
