Funeral services were Friday, September 14 at Arlington Community Church, UCC for Ralph E. Motley, 88 of Arlington who died September 11, 1990 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont. Rev. Don Cassiday officiated. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery.
Ralph E. Motley was born June 3, 1902 in Concordia, Kansas. He grew up in Oak, Nebraska and moved to Valley in 1927 where he fared. In 1945 he moved to a farm north of Arlington where he farmed until 1955.
He operated an oil station in Arlington for nine years and then worked for Consolidated Blenders at Arlington until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of Arlington Community Church. He was a pitcher for several years on the Platte Valley Baseball League and was an avid fisherman and gardener.
He married Virginia Livermore November 23, 1939 at Blue Earth, Minnesota. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle Robbins Motley and a brother, Clyde.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Sally (Mrs. Melvin) Schmidt of Arlington and Judi (Mrs. Duane) McKenzie of Nickerson; two brothers, Cecil Motley and Kenneth Motley, both of Glenvil, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Maudie Schultz of Crete, Nebraska; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tyler Schmidt, Todd Schmidt, Tim Schmidt, Greg Lang, Rob Nielsen and Mark Nielsen.
Ruby House was organist. Elaine Cady was soloist.
A memorial has been established to the Arlington Rescue Squad.
Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Edwin Motley
Ralph Edwin Motley was born June 3, 1902 at Concordia, Kansas. He was the son of George and Myrtle (Robbins) Motley. He grew up at Oak, Nebraska and moved to Valley, Nebraska in 1927 where he farmed. He married Virginia Livermore on November 23, 1939 at Blue Earth, Minnesota. They moved to a farm north of Arlington in 1945 where Ralph farmed until 1955. He operated an oil station in Arlington for nine years and then worked for Consolidated Blenders at Arlington until retiring in 1978.
Ralph was a member of the Arlington Community Church at Arlington. He was a pitcher for several years on the Platte Valley Baseball League and he was an avid fisherman and gardener.
He passed from this life on Tuesday, September 11, 1990, at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 8 days. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; 2 daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Sally) Schmidt of Arlington and Mrs. Duane (Judi) McKenzie of Nickerson; 2 brothers, Cecil and Kenneth of Glenvil, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. Maudie Schultz of Crete, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Clyde.
