W. L. Hall has handed us a copy of the Oregon Journal containing the notice of the death of Mrs. Florence Bailey Farnsworth in Portland, Feb. 23rd, and the funeral service was held the 25th in Salem under the auspices of the Eastern Star.

Miss Florence Bailey taught here in Blair early in the 80’s and was married to Frank Farnsworth, who was then in the grocery business with his brother, Ed, in 1883. Mr. Farnsworth died in 1911 and she went to live with her son G. Elmer, in St. Helens, Oregon. She was a correspondent for the Nebraska State Journal and other state papers and when she moved to Oregon she wrote “In Good Old Oregon”, which became a very popular song.

She is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Frances E. Bailey, a brother, Fred W. Bailey, and a sister, Bessie E. Bailey, all of Salem, and one sister, Mrs. Ada F. Taylor, of Mahaska, Alberta, Canada.

Mrs. Farnsworth visited Blair about two years ago and Mrs. I. C. Eller invited in all those who knew her to spend an evening. Both are now dead.

Printed in the Blair Pilot on 3/8/1916
