Services for Clara Sievers 93, who died February 14, 1995 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair were Saturday, February 18 at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. There was a prayer service and Order of Eastern Star service February 17. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
Clara Sievers was born September 28, 1901 on a farm near Sterling, Nebraska, to Fred and Maggie (Weber) Remmers. One of seven children, she attended country school for eight years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Sterling.
She married Henry Mennings in 1925. They farmed south of Sterling for a few years until moving to a farm near Bancroft. In 1943, they moved to a farm east of Fort Calhoun where they lived until her husband’s death in 1951.
She worked for several years in Lincoln and California hospitals.
She married Richard Sievers in 1954 and they lived in Fort Calhoun until her death.
She was a member of Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church and an active United Presbyterian Women’s Association member. She was a founding member of the quilters group at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church and an active member and past Worthy Matron of Naomi Chapter No. 121, Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Fort Calhoun Women’s Club and was a licensed funeral director.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Fort Calhoun; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Bill Winkler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Carol and Duane Sprick of Fort Calhoun; two sisters, Lena Hoehne and Irene Horschman and a brother-in-law, Marvin Benson, all of Sterling; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun was in charge of arrangements.
