Slain Woman Was Sister of Mrs. Hancock
Mrs. Bertha Kaufmann, 89, of Des Moines, who was slain late Saturday in her home, was a sister of Mrs. Mathilda Hancock of Blair. She had visited here on a number of occasions. Mrs. Hancock left for Des Moines Tuesday.
Murder charges have been filed against a 30 year old man who was a roomer at the home of Mrs. Kaufmann. He had rented a room a week ago.
Investigating officers found every room in the home ransacked and evidences that Mrs. Kaufmann had been killed with repeated blows from a clothes iron. Police arrested the man, who is a construction worker and he is being held in lieu of a 25-thousand dollar bond.
