FORMER BLAIRITE KILLED IN MAINE
Dr. Marie Mengers, 60, a former Blair woman and daughter of the late Rev. Viggo Mengers who was associated with Dana College for a number of years, was killed in an auto accident near Orono, Maine on June 21st. Dr. Mengers was a member of the faculty of the University of Maine at Orono.
Information regarding the accident reveals that Dr. Mengers and her mother, Mrs. Dora Mengers, 83, were driving on Interstate 95 south of Orono when Dr. Mengers lost control of the car and it plunged into a guard rail. The rail, 39 feet long, pierced the car from front to back, killing Dr. Mengers instantly and injuring her mother seriously. The rail had to be cut off at each end of the car to remove the wreckage from the highway.
There were no witnesses to the accident and no one knows exactly what happened.
Dr. Ethan Mengers, deceased father of Dr. Marie Mengers and husband of Mrs. Dora Mengers, joined Trinity Seminary at Dana as a professor in 1946. The Mengers family will be remembered by many local residents.
