CHRISTIAN E. ARMBRUST, 87
Services are 11 a.m. Thurs., Sept. 19 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont for Christian E. Armbrust, 87 of North Bend, who died at Crowell Memorial Home Sept. 15, 1996. Vicar Verdell Schramm of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend is officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Visitation will be Thurs. from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Christian E. Armbrust was born Aug. 17, 1909 in Gretna. He grew up in Omaha.
He was cook in a Civilian Conservation Corps. Camp. He moved to Chicago, Ill., in 1936, where he worked as an orderly at Cook County Hospital. He later worked at the Chicago Screw company.
In 1948, he moved to Downers Grove, Ill. and operated a floor sanding business for a time before working in construction. He was also employed at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Ill. He moved to Nebraska in 1986 and settled in North Bend.
He had been residing at Birchwood Manor in North Bend since Dec., 1994 and moved to the Crowell Memorial Home at Blair in Aug., 1996.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. In Illinois, he was a member of North American Gladiolus Society, Downers Grove Men’s Garden Club, the Cook-Dupage Beekeepers Assoc., Downers Grove Estates Fire Department, which he helped start. He helped build Downers Grove Estates’ fire stations and was a former president of the fire department’s board of trustees.
He married Pearl E. Timm in Omaha July 6, 1935.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Augusta Hansen Armbrust and two brothers, Lawrence Armbrust and Fred Armbrust.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Wesley of Downers Grove, Ill.; brothers, Paul Armbrust and Melvin Armbrust, both of Omaha and sisters, Margaret Wagner of Chovis, N.M.; Catherine Solomon of Vancouver, Wash. and Ann Schuett of Loveland, Colo.
Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
