Services for Alton A. Stender, 71 of Blair, who died January 18, 1996 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair after having a heart attack at his farm, were Saturday, January 20 at Emmaus Lutheran School in Kennard. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.
Alton A. Stender was born June 14, 1924 at Kennard to Emil and Christina Schumacher Stender. He attended the Lacrone School and Kennard High School, graduating in 1941.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.
He farmed in the Blair and Kennard area for over 50 years.
He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard and the Kennard American Legion Post No. 366. He was a past post commander and county commander.
He married Frances Elliott in Blair December 19, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Dennis Penry and Sherry and Gene Salsbury, all of Blair; two granddaughters, Lori Penry and Shelli Penry and two step-grandchildren, Chuck Salsbury and Holly Salsbury.
Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
