MRS. MARY A. BECK, Mrs. Jacob Beck, Mrs. John A. Cuppy

Mrs. Mary A. Beck died suddenly at her home in west Blair on Monday, April 9, 1914. She was born at Orville, Ohio, May 20, 1843, and came to Nebraska in 1865 and located near Fontanelle, and has been a resident of Washington county since. She was married to John A. Cuppy Dec. 24, 1871. To this union two children were born, one dying in infancy. The surviving daughter, Martha, is the wife of Henry Ruwe of this city. A few years after the death of Mr. Cuppy she married Jacob Beck, who died some ten years ago.

Mrs. Beck was a pioneer woman of Washington county and one of the largest land owners in the state, being possessed of nearly 5,000 acres of land, 1,200 of which is in Dodge county between Hooper and Uehling, the balance being in Washington county. He first husband, John A. Cuppy, was a member of the legislature in 1878, being elected to the state senate from this county.

The funeral will be held from the home at 9:30 tomorrow morning, the services to be conducted by Rev. Esplin, and the remains will be taken to Telbasta and laid to rest beside the body of her first husband.

Mrs. Mary A. Beck died at her home in this city Monday morning and the funeral will be held today from the home and interment made in the cemetery near Telbasta beside the remains of her first husband, John Cuppy. Deceased was born May 1843, and came to Washington county from Ohio in 1865, being married to John A. Cuppy in 1871. She was the mother of two children, one having died in infancy and the other is married to Henry A. Ruwe of this city. Some twenty years ago she was married to Jacob Beck and for a number of years had made her home in Blair.

Mrs. Mary A. Beck passed away very suddenly early Monday morning. She had been as well as usual up to Sunday evening, when she was taken sick at the stomach. About midnight Miss Dodd, who stayed with her, got up to see how she was getting on, and again at 4 o’clock in the morning, giving her a drink of water. At 6 she went in and found her sleeping the long sleep of death.

The funeral will be held at the house at 9:30 tomorrow morning, Rev. Wm. Esplin officiating. Burial will take place in the Telbasta cemetery, where her first husband, John A. Cuppy, was buried April 10th, 1888, also an infant son.

Mary A. Kimberlin was born at Orval, Wayne county, Ohio, May 20th, 1843, and was therefore almost 71 years of age. She came to this county in 1865, settling over near Fontanelle. She was married to John A. Cuppy, Dec. 14th, 1871, and of this union but one child is living, Mrs. Henry Ruwe, of this city. About 1895 she was again married to Jacob A. Beck, then of Burt county, his death occurring about 12 years ago.

She is survived by two brothers, Sherman Kimberlin, of Fairfax, Okla., and Louis Kimberlin, of this city. Her first husband, Mr. Cuppy, was one of the largest land owners in this and Dodge counties, and she owned about 1,500 acres of land, mostly in Dodge county, at the time of her death. Mrs. Beck was a woman of considerable force and intelligence, and has managed her large affairs herself since the death of Mr. Beck. She was an ardent suffragist and W.R.C. worker, and her means and her strength was always at the command of every agency for better things.
