Nona Halbert, 94, of Blair, died Friday, June 22, 2001.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair. Interment will be at the Blair Cemetery.
Nona Isabelle Ireland Halbert was born Jan. 29, 1907, in Washington County to Maude and Void Ireland. The family lived on a farm south of Blair.
She was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary’s
Episcopal Church, where she was a member for many years. She graduated from Blair High School.
On Sept. 21, 1928, she married Clifford Halbert. They lived in Blair all their married life. Mrs. Halbert was a linotype operator for the Enterprise, the Lutheran Publishing House, the Times in Missouri Valley, and a printing shop in Fremont.
Mrs. Halbert was a member of McKinley Chapter of Eastern Star and Washington County Republican Women.
The couple had no children, but they enjoyed their nieces and nephews. Mrs. Halbert was interested in the activities of many children she knew in Blair. She loved her home on South Street, and her wonderful neighbors. She played bridge, enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, and Nebraska football.
The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1978. Her husband suffered a stroke and she lovingly cared for him for many years before his death in 1979.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and their husbands, Nona and Gene Kay of Arlington, Ann and Ron Pierson of Lincoln, Carolyn an Don Srajer of Omaha, Cynthia Taylor of Corvallis, Ore., nephew and wife, Michael and Martha Halbert of Sarasota, Fla., nephews, Wilford Nielsen of Lincoln, David Halbert of Portland, Ore., Steven Halbert of Kansas City, Mo., a sister-in-law, Irene (Halbert) McGee; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, Tom Powell of Milford, N.H., Dorothy (Powell) O’Donnell of San Diego, Calif., and Howard Ireland of Omaha.
Mrs. Halbert was preceded in death by her husband, and a sister, Bee Nielsen.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the Blair Rescue Squad, and the Washington County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
