36-year member of Blair Eagles

Elmer L. Schmidt, 69, of Blair died peacefully, surrounded by his family at his daughter's home after a three-year battle with cancer on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011.

Funeral services were Feb. 24 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Elmer L. Schmidt was born on Dec. 23, 1941, in Fort Calhoun to Peter and Helen (Mielens) Schmidt.

On Sept. 16, 1961, he married Carol Frye. They had been married for 48 years at the time of her death.

Mr. Schmidt worked a few years in construction then worked for Kelly Ryan for more than 30 years. After retirement, they managed the Brookview Apartments in Blair for seven years.

He loved to fish, watch old cowboy movies and WWE (wrestling), but most of all, he loved to be with his family.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 36 years.

He is remembered as a wonderful dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Ogle of Bellevue, Phillip Andersen, Rhonda and Rick Hillman, and Shane Schmidt, all of Blair; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie Smith of Tekamah and Norma Phelen of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; three sisters and four brothers.

SERVICES 10:30am Thursday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. VISITATION begins 12pm Wednesday with family receiving friends 6-8pm. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
