Mary Ann Frye, age 84, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Mary Ann was born on October 25, 1931, to Elmer and Mabel (Thomas) Peterson. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1949. Mary Ann was married to Duane Frye of Missouri Valley on August 17, 1950. Duane, Mary Ann and daughter Terri joined the church in 1952. She was secretary of St. Paul Lutheran Church from 1961 to 1966 and Children’s Librarian at the local library until 1970, leaving to work at the High School in the Home Economics Department for 10 years before transferring to the Middle School as a secretary in the principal’s office. She retired in 1989. Mary Ann enjoyed reading and sewing, family gatherings and Bemidji, Minnesota vacations in the summer with her family. She was a 60 year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in the women’s group.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband Duane, parents, brothers Dale, Donald and Jack Peterson and sister Dorothy Starks.

She is survived by her daughters Terri of West Des Moines, IA, Susan Pearson and husband Michael of Blair, Nebraska, Lisa Frye of Colorado Springs, CO, son Michael and wife Debbie of Missouri Valley, IA, four grandchildren Scott Pearson and Michele Pearson both of Herman, NE, Matthew Frye of Blair, NE, and Mark Frye of Missouri Valley, IA, sister-in-law Kazuko Peterson of Albuquerque, NM, mother-in-law Velma Smith of Council Bluffs, IA, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

The family invites everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

The family would like memorials directed to Alzheimer's Association, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Missouri Valley, IA or Generations Hospice Care, Missouri Valley, IA.
