Former Blair resident, Howard C. Hanson Jr., 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 in Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the service.
Howard Cooper Hanson, Jr. was born March 18, 1933 in Omaha to Howard Cooper and Verona B. Hanson Sr. He was raised in Herman. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, 1954. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
Mr. Hanson was responsible for moving the Herman State Bank to Blair in 1962, forming the Blair Bank, of which he was president until 1983.
With business partner Don Reimer, he founded Modern Farm Systems in the 1960’s which grew to become the second largest grain storage bin manufacturer in the United States.
He was a member of the Dana College Board of Regents in the 1970’s. He also was a member of the Landmark Masonic Lodge of Herman, a member of Omaha Scottish Rite and a Tangier Shriner.
He served on the Chamber of Commerce in Blair during the 1960’s and 1970’s and in Deerfield Beach during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie; two daughters, Rebecca Engler and Suzanne Lawson; a son, Craig Hanson; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Howard Cooper Hanson, III.
