Thomas C. Loftis, 78 of Herman, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2006, at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Herman American Legion Hall, with military honors provided by the Herman American Legion Post No. 274.
Thomas C. Loftis was born Nov. 26, 1927 in Fort Calhoun to Leoanrd L. and Mary (Skinner) Loftis. He graduated from Herman High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of World War II. His careers included farming, excavation, general construction, finish carpentry and custom woodworking. He left a memorable mark on many homes and businesses in the Burt and Washington County area, as well as New Mexico and southern California. He was an avid hunter, fisher and woodworker until those activities were restricted by his failing health.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Chuck of Blair, Steve and Linda of Lincoln; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; former wife, Helen Loftis Matzen of Blair; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Loftis of Blair; Mary Helen and Carl Launer of Omaha; Ruth and Larry nelson of Arlington; Betty and Dale Finch of Casper, Wyo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard Jr. and Janet Loftis, Herman; Alan and Fran Loftis, Seward.
Memorials are suggested to the Herman American Legion Post 274.
