Mrs. Irv Houghton died at 12:30 a.m. yesterday from the result of internal injuries received a couple of days ago while trying to water a cow. Drs. Bedal and Robinson performed an operation Tuesday evening from which she seemed to recover but soon after that went into a sleep and never awakened. The funeral will be held in the Christian church at 3:30 this afternoon.

Mrs. Amelda Houghton, daughter of Henry and Lucertia Houghton was born June 16, 1865 and died February 12, 1902, aged 36 years, 7 months and 26 days. The immediate cause of her death was septicemia. On April 24, 1880, her earthly destiny was linked with that of Mr. George Houghton by marriage. Five children came to bless their home and now mourn with the husband and father the seemingly untimely demise of wife and mother. Besides these, three sisters, Mrs. Al Boston, Mrs. Geo. Carson, Mrs. George Fhnn ?, and one brother, Mr. Charles Houghton, and many friends and neighbors, for she was full of good deeds, mourn their loss.
At 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 13, the funeral services were held at the Christian Church to which she belonged, conducted by the writer who discoursed to a crowded house from these words, “Her sun is going down, while it is yet day.” Jer 15:9. After the sermon, Mrs. Bonine read the following poem from the ritual of the Woodmen Circle, of which deceased was a member and her remains were laid reverently to rest in the Blair Cemetery. A. D. A Sad Bereavement:
As sunshine and shadow chase each other around the earth so move joy and sorrow in communities and families. From Nebo’s height we are rejoicing in a view of the Promised Land today but down in the valley of Zin tomorrow torn and bleeding because of the thorns.
Less than a week ago the home of Mrs. George I Houghton of this city was filled with joy, the bairns that still in the home nest, gather around the family board with the father and mother, little thinking but what the family circle and joys would go unbroken for many years. But alas! They have had a sad awakening to the realization of the instability of earthy pleasures.
On Saturday morning last Mrs. Houghton was found to be quite ill, and early in the day a physician was called. Later another was taken into consultation and, later still, another. But in spite of all efforts of the doctors she grew gradually worse and expired at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.
