Raymond R. Holstein, 82, of Alta, Iowa, died Nov. 13, 2002, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 16 at Trinity Lutheran church in Alta, with interment at Schaller (Iowa) Cemetery.
Raymond R. Holstein was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Powell Wyo., to Edward Holstein and Laura Berndorf. He attended Rose Hill School in Blair.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He farmed in the Alta and Schaller areas.
He was married to Helen Nelson, who preceded him in death in 1989. In 1990, he married Lillian Swanson in Alta.
Mr. Holstein enjoyed softball, bowling and golfing. He was a member of VFW Post No. 4707 of Schaller, and he served on the church and elevator boards. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Kathy Holstein of Schaller, and Robert and Jeanette of Fort Dodge, Iowa; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Donald Platt of Fort Dodge, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Donna Holstein, Marvin and Marjorie Holstein, Walt and Delores Holstein, and Roger and Patty Holstein; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Delmer Bruns; his wife's children and their families: Janet and Clayton Porter of Adel, Iowa; Lorraine and William Plander of Minneapolis, Minn., Phyllis and Don Witzel of Palmer, Alaska, and Joleen and Garny Gaffey of Pine River, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and his wife's siblings and their spouses, Clara and Melvin Samuelson, Vivian Toomer, and Kenneth and Evelyn Gregerson.
In addition to his first wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Van De Venter and Gladys Mogenson, and two brothers, Chris Holstein and Gene Holstein.
Barker Funeral Home in Alta was in charge of arrangements.
