JOHN E. HOOVER RITES SATURDAY
WORLD WAR I VETERAN DIES AT AGE OF 63 YEARS
Services were held in the Legion Hall in Herman, Saturday afternoon, April 21, for John E. Hoover, Rev. Robert Wigert had charge. The singers were Mrs. Claude Yowell and Mrs. T.R Swanson with Mrs. William Skinner, pianist. Pallbearers were Thomas Wakefield, A.R. Harper, Albert Madsen, J.B. Jensen, Ed Hansen and James Wachter. Burial was in the Herman cemetery. The funeral was a military funeral. Mr. Fred Robertson sounded the Taps.
John E. Hoover was born in Belview, Neraska, July 30, 1887 and died at the Veterans' Hospital in Omaha, April 18, 1951 at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 18 days. He was in business with his father in Herman for many years.
He was a veteran of World War I and was overseas for seventeen months. He enlisted in the army and served in the heavy Coast Artillery. He served in the 162 Coast Artillery, Battery E.
He was married to Maud McCown, January 7, 1932. He is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Stokes of Hardy, Saskatchewan, Canada and Mrs. Verna Smith of National City, California. Two brothers, Harvey of National City, California and Jesse, of San Diego, California. Mrs. Verna Smith and Harvey were present for the funeral. He is also survived by many friends.
