The death of Mrs. Gilbert M. Hitchcock occurred in Washingtoon D.C., May 8, following a long illness. The body was brought to Omaha, her old home, and funeral services held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Doorly. Mrs. Hitchcock was the daughter of the late Governor Lorenzo Crounse, who lived at Fort Calhoun for many years and her younger days were spent in that community. Her early girlhood friend, Miss Carrie Wiseman of this city, went down to attend the funeral services as did also Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Van Deusen.
