Mrs. Ada Reid 82, Buried Here Sunday-Had Been Making Home With Sister At Haxtun, Colorado
Services for Mrs. Ada Reid, a resident of Blair for nearly 60 years, were held last Sunday at Bendorf Funeral Home and burial was made in the Blair Cemetery.
Mrs. Reid, until five years ago, made Blair her home but had since lived with a sister at Haxtun, Colorado. She had been in failing health most of that time and death came while she was confined to a hospital at Sterling, Colorado.
She was 82 years of age. Death was attributed to a sclerosis of the brain.
Mrs. Reid, the former Marcellena Mae Donnelly, was born in Loudon County, Virginia, in 1873 and was one of a family of fourteen children. The family came to the vicinity of Blair when Mrs. Reid was quite young. She was married to John M. Reid at Blair in 1893. Her husband and a son Raymond, both preceded her in death.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Reid was interested in many things. She and her husband established the first greenhouse in Blair, later selling it to W. J. Rodgers who operated it until ten years ago when it was again sold to Bert Trisdale, its present operator. After her husband’s death, Mrs. Reid operated the Dexterville Store, a business venture at which she was quite successful.
She was a member of the Congregational Church, and also maintained membership in the Rebekah Lodge, the Monday Afternoon Club, the Royal Neighbors, the American War Mothers and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Mrs. Reid is survived by three sisters. They are: Mrs. Clara Finch and Miss Celeste Donnelly, of Haxtun, and Mrs. Anna Shenck, of Blair. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Raymond Reid, a granddaughter, Mrs. Joan Barker, of San Antonio, Texas and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday at Haxtun and at Blair Sunday with Rev. Samuel Elliston conducting the services. Pallbearers were grandnephews: Clark and Max Snowden, Louie and Leo Sully, Maurice Knudsen, Exira, Iowa and Joe Lindholm, Audubon, Iowa.
