Former Garryowen Resident Dies In California
Word was received last week that Edward J. Fitzgerald, a long-time Washington County resident, died January 19 at San Mateo, California. Mr. Fitzgerald, age 70, formerly of the Garryowen vicinity, succumbed after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 15, 1901, the eldest son of pioneer parents, and he farmed in the Garryowen vicinity nearly all of his adult life. He retired and moved to California about six years ago.
Mr. Fitzgerald is survived by two brothers; Leo of Omaha; Paul of Billings, Montana; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Barrett of San Mateo, California; Misses Zita and Regina of Oakland, Calif. Miss Loretta of Washington, D.C.; and Sister Clair, O.P. of River Forrest, Illinois.
Services were held Monday, January 24, from St. Gregory’s Church with burial at San Mateo, California.
