Augusta Flake was born in Cuming County, near Wisner, NE. Her parents were William Hass and Anna Baumgart Hass. She was baptized in infancy in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and later confirmed there. She was educated in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church School. She grew up and lived at her parents’ home until she married Edward Flake of Washington County on June 15, 1915.
They then moved to the farm at Herman where they resided until his death in 1951. She continued to live there with her son, Darrell, and family, until her death.
Her love for her home and her family was her life. She loved working in her garden and her flowers. She was a devoted grandmother and she loved he simple things of life and to her it was rewarding.
She loved her Church and was a devoted Christian.
Augusta truly lived a full life.
She passed away at the Fremont Annex on October 19, 1983, at the age of 89 years.
She is survived by her son Darrell, two daughters, Thelma Heinssen of Blair and Mrs. Jack (Lorraine) Wachter of Herman, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Six brothers, Gustav, John, William, Julius, Fred and Paul, and three sisters, Irene, Ida and Alma, and her parents preceded her in death.
