James Gossard died at the Blair Hospital at one o’clock p.m. today from the effects of an operation for appendicitis, performed by a surgeon from Omaha.

J. O. Gustason Dies Following An Operation For Appendicitis

J. O. Gustason died Friday afternoon, Nov. 30, 1917 at the Blair Hospital following an operation for appendicitis.

James Oscar Gustason was born in Sweden April 24, 1863. He came to America with his parents in 1867, locating at Dayton, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. He came to Blair in July, 1883, and on Nov. 14, 1888, was married to Miss Leatsey Johnson. To this union six children were born, Arthur D.., Verne J., Mrs. Pearl Hewett, Hazel M., Thelma L., and Lela V., all of this city. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his demise, two sisters, Mrs. Evan Reeves, of Des Moines, and Mrs. John Peterson, of Arlington, and two half-brothers, Fred and Edward Lyon, of Dayton, Ohio.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. W. H. Buss, of Fremont, from the family residence in Blair at two o’clock on Monday afternoon.

James Oscar Gustason was born in Sweden April 23rd, 1863, and came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claus Gustason, in Aug. 1867. He located to Dayton, Webster County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. From there he moved to Blair, July 1888. Nov. 14, 1888 he was married to Miss Leatsey Johnson of Blair. This union was blest by six children, two sons and four daughters: Arthur D., Verne J., Mrs. Pearle Hewett, Hazel M., Thelma L., and Lela V. Besides his loving wife and children, he leaves to mourn his departure, two sisters, Mrs. Evan Rees, of Des Moines, and Mrs. J. A. Peterson of Arlington. There are also four brothers as follows: John Gustason, of Pomeroy, Iowa; Charles Gustason, Fred Lyon and Edwin Lyon, of Dayton, Iowa.

Mr. Gustason suffered from appendicitis for some time. The last attack came on Wednesday, November 21st. He was removed to the Blair Hospital where a successful operation was performed, and hope was held out that he might recover. The complication set in and he died Friday, November 30th, 1917, at 1:25 P.M.

Mr. Gustason was a member of the Congregational Church of this city, and of the Modern Woodmen of American. Funeral services were held at the family residence at 2 o’clock, on Monday, December 3rd. Rev. W. H. Buss of Fremont, officiating.

A mixed quartet furnished the music, and the Modern Woodmen took charge at the cemetery with official ritual.
