SADIE BRODERSEN, NEWS WRITER FOR OVER 25 YEARS, DIED LAST SUNDAY
Sadie Brodersen, a lifetime resident of the Herman area and a writer of Herman news for The Enterprise for more than twenty-five years, died at her home in Herman last Sunday, April 22nd.
She was one of three Herman women who had been involved in an auto-train accident at the 19th street crossing in Blair on Thursday, April 5th. Others involved in the accident were her sisters, Mary Brodersen and Ruth Jackson. The three sisters all made their home together in Herman.
Sadie, as she was known to everyone, was 85 years old, having been born February 12, 1888 in a log cabin near Herman.
She was the eldest child of W.C. Cameron and Harriet Ruth Wilson Cameron and was educated in Washington County Rural Schools and Dana College and spent six year of her youth as a school teacher in Herman and vicinity. She was united in marriage to James C. Brodersen in 1911 and they resided on a farm near Herman until 1945 when they moved into Herman.
She was a member of the Herman United Methodist Church; the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star of which she has been a member for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter "Harriet Ruth" and a brother Whit and is survived by one daughter, May Van Valin of Wakefield, Nebraska and four sons, Riley, Charles and Malcolm of Herman and Robert of Craig, one brother, Jack Cameron and two sisters, Mary Brodersen and Ruth Jackson, all of Herman; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild and many other relatives. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, April 25, 1973 at 2:00 p.m. at the Herman American Legion Hall, with Rev. Robert Wigert of Waverly, Nebraska in charge of the services. Pall bearers: Larry L. Brodersen, Dale R. Brodersen, Roger R. Brodersen, Robert M. Brodersen, John C. Brodersen, James W. Brodersen and Mikel R. Brodersen.
Interment in the New England cemetery.
