A registered nurse, she graduated from Kohler School of Nursing at Rochester, Minnesota. After graduation, she worked at a Rochester hospital until 1926 when she went to Chicago to take post graduate work at the Chicago Lying In Hospital.

After spending five years in Chicago, she accepted a position as head of the maternity ward at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, where she worked for four years.

She married William Clark Allen and they farmed south of Blair until 1937, when they moved to town. In 1939, she took over the Blair Hospital, then located at the corner of 13th and Grant Streets in Blair. She operated the hospital until 1956 and then worked at Memorial Community Hospital, retiring on June 24, 1962.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1946.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Allen and John Allen, both of Blair; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
