FORMER BLAIR WOMAN CALLED
Last Sunday’s Omaha World Herald carried an announcement of the death of Mrs. John Astleford of Biloxi, Mississippi. Mrs. Astleford is known to Blair residents of earlier days as Miss Mayme Arnold. Mrs. Astleford was born in Ft. Calhoun in 1868 and later her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rice Arnold, moved to Blair where they made their home for a long term of years. Her father is said to have been the first sheriff of Washington county, and for years served as chief of police of Blair.
She had lived at Biloxi the past 22 years. Surviving her, besides the husband, are four sons, Clark, John J., Ray and Roy; a sister, Mrs. T. F. Sturgess of Denver, and a brother, Bige Arnold of Murphysboro, Ill.
Interment was made at Biloxi.
