OLDEST ARLINGTON RESIDENT IS DEAD
Ernest Elsner, Sr., oldest resident of Arlington who would have been 93 years old on April 13, died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Anna, in Arlington. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home and at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist church in Arlington, with the Rev. Ralph Rasmussen in charge.
The surviving children are Anna of Arlington, Mrs. J. R. Bader of Fremont; Mrs. A. L. Langston of Crescent, Okla.; Mrs. J. Q. Wallingford of Arlington; Mrs. J. W. Johnson of Hastings; Ernest of Santa Anna, Calif.; and R. B. Elsner of Arlington.
Mr. Elsner came to this country when 22 years of age on a sailship taking 65 days to make the ocean trip. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Unland, making his home in Illinois. In 1878 he, with his wife and family of five girls, came to Washington county, buying a farm near Arlington. It was in this house that the German Methodist church was organized. Except for six years that he resided in Fremont, he lived on the same farm until 1904 when he moved into Arlington. Mrs. Elsner died in 1907, and since that time Mr. Elsner has made his home with this daughter, Anna.
