WASP STING FATAL TO CALHOUN MAN
Physicians said Tuesday the sting of a wasp caused the death of Oscar Gapen, 37, of Plattsmouth, a civilian employee who was stung while clearing brush with army engineers on river channel work near Fort Calhoun.
Such deaths are rare it was said. Galen died within 20 minutes after the incident. A postmortem disclosed, doctors said, that the apparent cause of death was “acute anaphylaxis” resulting from sensitization of his body to a wasp sting. He had been stung once five years ago.
