IN MEMORY OF JANICE HISLOP
In May of 1999, Good Shepherd Lutheran Home residents and staff were blessed with Resident Services Coordinator, Janice Hislop. Janice began her duties driving the center's van for resident appointments and community activities away from the center. In her time between appointments, she moved to being the direct care giver for all the animals and plants in our center. With Janice's love for nature and animals, she would eliminate the plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom often experienced in nursing home life.
In long-term care, love matters. Institutions can't love; people can. This is where Janice really shined with her demeanor and love for plants and animals with which she helped build relationships and others to grow just as she believed others would do for her.
Janice died on July 19, 2002. She will be missed greatly. She left us the gift of empowering others in our facility to transcend from the usual boundaries that we have created to create a vision for those who live and work here at Good Shepherd and what we want to be.
