FORMER HERMAN MAN DIES JULY 8
Lafayette Davis was born to Thomas and Anna Davis near Springfield, Illinois February 20, 1851, and passed away at the home of his son, Howard, at Bellwood, Nebraska on July 8, 1937.
When about ten years of age, he came with his parents to Nebraska, and settled on a farm two miles northwest of Herman where he grew to manhood. He was married October 16, 1872 to Miss Louisa Armstrong. She died January 11, 1933. To this union five children were born, one daughter and five sons, all living: Mrs. M. J. Cope of Montana; Arthur of California; Ura of Wyoming and Hiram and Howard of Bellwood, Nebraska. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive.
The deceased was one of a family of twelve children of whom two sisters and four brothers survive: Mrs. E. J. Dewey and Mrs. Emma O’Hanlon, and Grant Davis of Omaha; Aaaron Davis of Craig; George Davis of Washington and William Davis of California.
The deceased was an early pioneer of Nebraska. He farmed near Herman until 1905 when he moved to Kansas. In 1916 he returned to Nebraska. After the death of Mrs. Davis in 1933 he went to make his home at Belwood, Nebraska with his sons, Howard and Hiram.
He helped organize and build the Methodist church in Herman and was a charter member. He always attended church until less than a year ago when his health began to fail. He will be remembered as one always ready to do his duty.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Methodist church in Herman with the pastor, Rev. A. W. Clarke in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Miss Dagmar Olson, L. D. Long and C. R. Gray with Mrs. H. C. Hansen at the piano.
Interment was made in the Herman cemetery.
