Farm Couple Dies in Suicide Pact Tuesday Night
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thielfoldt Take Lives By Monoxide Poisoning
MOTHER FINDS BODIES OF COUPLE
Tragedy struck this community early Wednesday when the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thielfoldt, farmers near Blair, became known. The couple, about 40 years of age, resided on a farm three-quarters mile west of the Gardner School. Death was attributed to monoxide-gas poisoning which they inhaled from the running automobile in their closed garage.
According to Sheriff W.D. McDonald, who was summoned to the scene, the couple had apparently gone to the garage some time late Tuesday evening. They had entered the garage, sealed the crevices around the doors with sacks, and had started the motor of their car. Both had gotten into the car but had left the doors open. Death overtook them quietly and painlessly sometime during the night.
Discovery of the tragedy was made by Mrs. Jens Larsen, mother of Mrs. Thielfoldt, who had been making her home with the couple. Mrs. Larsen immediately called Otto Christensen, a nearby neighbor, who investigated and then called authorities.
Sheriff McDonald reported that no note explaining the incident had been found up to late Wednesday afternoon and that in all probability there would be none. Harry Thielfoldt had been in ailing health for some time and it is thought that this may have been the motive for the incident.
The couple had no children.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at two o’clock at the First Lutheran Church
