Mrs. F. W. Arndt suffered a third paralytic stroke Monday evening, and death ensured within half an hour. She hadn’t been well for a number of years, and just about Thanksgiving time she suffered a severe stroke. A trained nurse was with her until Christmas time when she had sufficiently recovered to get up and be about some. Sunday morning a second stroke left her in a serious condition, though she regained consciousness in the afternoon. After the third stroke she never rallied, and died within half an hour, at about 6:30 Monday, January 9th. The funeral will be held at the family residence on west Lincoln street at 2:30 tomorrow, Thursday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating. Sophie E. Riddler was born in Ft. Calhoun Sept. 17th, 1867, and was therefore 54 years of age last September. Her parents moved to this city when she was 14 years of age, and her father built the residence where she died. She was married to F. W. Arndt April 7th, 1886, also in the house where death found her. Three children were born to them: W. B. of this city; Mrs. E. J Bunting of Akron, Ia.; and Mrs. Herman Struve of this city. Besides these she leaves one sister, Mrs. J. J. Cole of Florence, whose daughter, Mabel, Mrs. George W. Parkerson, died January 2nd in San Francisco, and the body brought here for burial yesterday. Mrs. Arndt was a member of the W. R. C. and the Order of the Eastern Star, being past matron of the latter order. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of many friends.

MRS. F. W. ARNDT HAS BEEN CALLED TO REST

Mrs. F. W. Arndt, one of Blair’s highly cultured and respected ladies, passed peacefully away on Monday evening at 6:30 o’clock.

Mrs. Arndt had been in delicate health for the past two or three years, and during the past few months had been confined to her bed the greater part of the time, and had been in the care of a professional nurse.

Several months ago the lady had a light paralytic stroke, and since that time her health has been rapidly failing. However, for a few days before her demise she appeared greatly improved, and her family felt encouraged. She was up all of last week, but on Sunday she had another attack from which she did not rally; the immediate cause of her death was heart trouble.

Sophie E. Ridler was born at Ft. Calhoun, Nebr. September 17, 1867, and was united in marriage to F. W. Arndt April 7, 1886 at Blair. Since her marriage she had always resided in this city where she was greatly esteemed by all who knew her. She was the mother of three children, Josephine, now Mrs. E. J. Bunting of Akron, Iowa; Wilfred B. Arndt and Dorette, now Mrs. Herman H. Struve, the two latter residents of this city.

The funeral services were held at her late home today, Rev. W. H. Underwood of Crowell Home delivering the funeral sermon, and burial was made in the Blair cemetery. Mrs. Arndt was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for a number of years.

Besides her husband and the three children, she is survived by two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. J. J. Cole of Florence, and a large circle of friends who truly regret her passing.
