#1-6 Apr., 1922 - The Enterprise - Amelia Hansen

Mrs. Amelia Hansen was born in Skona, Sweden April 20, 1854, died at Wisner, Nebr. March 30, 1922, aged 67 years, 11 months and 10 days.

When but 18 years of age she came to America and directly to Omaha where she joined relatives. On May 1, 1876 she was united in marriage to Hans Christian Hansen, and for two years following their marriage they lived in Omaha, and then moved to a farm just west of the German hall in Calhoun township where her husband followed his trade, blacksmithing, until his death Dec. 6, 1905.

About four years ago she went to Wisner to make her home with her daughters, Mrs. John Spangler and Mrs. N. C. Jacobsen, dying at the home of the latter.

She was the mother of nine children, eight of whom are now living, one having died in infancy. those living are: Wm. Hansen of Benson, Oscar, who resides on the home place, Otto of __________, Mrs. John Spangler and Mrs. N. C. Jacobsen of Wisner and Mrs. John Timperly of Irvington.

At an early age she was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church and on taking up her duties in America she found a home in the Danish Lutheran church with which she affiliated.

Funeral services were held from the Congregational church of Wisner Friday, march 31, and on Sunday at the old home in this county where a large gathering of old friends congregated to do honor to an old neighbor and friend.

Interment was made in the German cemetery.

MRS. HANSEN BROUGHT FROM WISNER FOR BURIAL HERE

Rev. W. H. Underwood officiated at a short burial service Sunday for Mrs. Amalia Hansen, the body being brought here from Wisner for interment.

Deceased was born in Skona, Sweden April 20, 1854, and was 67 years of age. She had been a resident of America since she was 18 years old and came direct from Sweden to Omaha. She was married to Christian Hansen on Mayday, 1876, and was the mother of nine children, eight of whom survive her. They are William Hansen of Benson; Oscar Hansen, Bennington; Otto Hansen, Denver; Eddie Hansen, Lincoln; Mrs. Jens Christensen of Bancroft; Mrs. John Spangler and Mrs. N. E. Jacobsen of Wisner, and Mrs. John Timperley of Irvington. There are also sixteen grandchildren. She was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church of her native land, but on coming to America she found a church home in the Danish Lutheran church.

The funeral was held at the Congregational church at Wisner, conducted by the pastor Rev. H. Ellis Lininger.
