CHARLES NELSON OF HERMAN, DEATH VICTIM
County Commissioner For Years & Member Of Fair Board
Charles Nelson, 76, passed away Monday morning, August 15, 1949 from a heart attack. He was residing with his son, Carl, at 540 West Military Avenue, Fremont.
Mr. Nelson was born in Denmark and came to this country at the age of 14. Until four years ago he lived at Herman, Nebr., where he was engaged in farming.
He was married to Margery Helen Marsh in 1887 at Hooper, Nebr. His wife died in May of 1945 at Herman, Nebraska. Two sons were born to this union, Sherman who died in infancy and Carl of Fremont.
Mr. Nelson was a former County Commissioner, serving in that capacity for 16 years. He has been an active member of the Washington County Fair Association for many years.
At an early age he was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and in later years attended the M. E. Church in Herman.
Mr. Nelson was affiliated with Landmark Lodge No. 222 A.F. & A.M. of Herman of which he was a past Master.
Survivors are the son, Carl, of Fremont. A stepdaughter, Mrs. Mabel Hewett of Blanchard, Okla., four grandchildren, Mrs. Margery Oltmer, Honolulu, T. H.; Mrs. Jean Lamberth, Jacksonville, Texas; Kenneth A. Nelson, Lincoln, Nebr.; and Miss Mary Nelson of Fremont and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the Methodist church in Herman, Nebr. Burial in the family lot in Blair Cemetery at Blair, Nebr. Rev. A. W. Clarke of Schuyler, Nebr., will officiate. Mr. Nelson will lie in state at the Lawson Funeral Home until Thursday morning when the body will be taken to Herman, Nebr. for interment.
