#1-20 Aug., ,1904 - The Pilot - Miles West - Veteran
The Pilot learns of the death of Miles West at Herman which occurred last Monday. Mr. West was born in 1837. In 1857 he joined the Baptist church where he always held a membership. In 1858 he married Miss Margaret King and in 1882 he removed to Herman where he has since resided. In the early part of 1864 he joined the Union army and remained till the close of the war, being a member of the 13th Indiana. Of eight children, five are still living. The funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist church where Rev. Chas. G. Rouse officiated. The Pilot joins the many friends of the family in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.

Miles West died at his home in Herman shortly after noon Monday, and the funeral was conducted from the M. E. church at 3 o’clock yesterday. He was an old soldier and the G.A.R. had charge of the funeral, Rev. Rouse assisting. He was near 70 years of age and leaves a widow and a large family of sons and daughters to mourn his loss.
