25 May, 1904 - Blair Courier - Austin Rockwell - First Nebraska State Legislature
G. L. Rockwell sends us word of the death of his father, which occurred at his home in Oklahoma City on Saturday, May 17th. Austin Rockwell was a hardware merchant in this city from 1874 to 1889, and will be remembered by many Blair people. He was born at Edwardsville, Ill. in 1822, and had therefore reached the advanced age of almost 82 years. In 1861 he had charge of the government mills on the Omaha Indian reservation by direct appointment of President Lincoln. In ’67 he was a member of the state legislature at the time Nebraska entered statehood. The surviving members of the family are his wife, Caroline M., one daughter, Jennie, and two sons. Wm. F. of Chicago and Geo. L. of Oklahoma City.
