27 Feb., 1902 - The Pilot - Wilkes Slader
Wilkes Slader, who was buried in the Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska cemetery Feb. 20, 1902, has lived with his brother, N. G. Slader for over 30 years. He was badly injured in the accident in his early days, and left mentally and physically disabled and found his greatest panacea in hard constant employment, and although over 70 and bent with age, he would take his staff in one hand and chop wood with the other long after his friends desired him to cease, and literally died in the harness at the family woodpile.
