24 Sept., 1906 - The Pilot - Gottlieb (or) Gottleib Nuessle or Nuessler, or Nuesshe
GOTTLIEB NUESSER
Gottleib Nuesser was a carpenter who came to Ft. Calhoun from Sarpy county about seven years ago. Sometime during February he became ill from cancer of the bowels and, having no settled home or relatives here, the W.O.W. lodge took him to the St. Joseph’s hospital, Omaha, and ordered him properly cared for at the expense of the Ft. Calhoun lodge where he died September 16, 1906. The Woodmen purchased a handsome coffin, and brought the body to the city hall where a goodly number of people met to do honor to this lonely brother. On account of the delayed trains the Bennington Lutheran minister failed to arrive, and a short service was held by Elder Woods, assisted by the Christian Endeavor choir, with Miss Bauman at the organ, the funeral being conducted by the lodge with J. J. Blodgett as chaplain and Mr. Schrader as director. His nearest relatives are two brothers in Davenport, Iowa that could not be reached by telegraph owing to the wires being down. He also left a sister in his native land, Switzerland. His age was 44 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was a very quiet, industrious man, and was our friend. His coffin was covered with flowers and everything done for him by the lodge that his own family could have done.
