FORMER BLAIRITE KILLS BANK BANDIT
HARVEY VIZINA SHOOTS ROBBER: $10,000 FOUND IN MAN’S CLOTHING
Harvey Vizina, 39, Sidney garage officer and former Blairite, fired the bullet which killed Kenneth Allen, 22, one of two youths who had just staged a $10,000 bank robbery at Fort Morgan, Colorado, Saturday.
Vizina, a former policeman who was deputized when word was received that the bandit pair was speeding toward Sidney, chased Allen into an alley near the Sidney business section after a gun battle broke out, and dropped Allen with a single shot as he attempted to enter a car for a getaway.
On Allen’s body was found more than $10,000.
Meanwhile the other bandit, Myron Earl Howen, 20, fled to Garden City, Kansas, where an officer shot and killed him.
Vizina, who won much praise for his work in bringing down, is a native of Blair. He left here about 1917 or 1918 for Sidney, but returned about five years ago to farm a couple of years near Herman. He is a brother of Stormy A. Vizina, Blair farmer.
