LOCKJAW IS FATAL TO BOY
LYLE GILLILAND DIES OF COMPLICATIONS FROM SLIVER IN FOOT
BOY, 11, WAS ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN
Lyle Gordon Gilliland, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert “Bud” Gilliland of 413 E. Lincoln St., died at University Hospital in Omaha last Thursday afternoon from the effects of lockjaw.
The boy had run a wood sliver into his foot about a week earlier, causing complications which resulted in lockjaw. He was rushed to the hospital two days before his death.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Campbell mortuary. The Rev. E.G. Aldridge of the Assembly of God officiated, assisted by the Rev. Merle Harris of Winnebago. Burial followed in the Blair cemetery.
The boy was born here July 3, 1936. Surviving are his parents, five brothers, Jack, Freddy, Albert, Billy and George. One sister, Mari, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gilliland Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ackerman, all of Blair.
