Heartland Farms employee dies in barn fire
Washington County responded to fire last week
Officials have identified a man killed in a fire in Bennington earlier this month.
Nathan Dietrich, 32, of Bennington and an employee of Heartland Farms, died of smoke inhalation related to the barn fire in Bennington Feb. 3, according to a release issued by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal. Several horses also died in the fire.
Several Washington County fire personnel responded to a horse barn fire at 23203 Dutch Hall Rd. in rural Bennington shortly after 6 a.m. Feb. 3. Ten horses were removed from the barn and treated for serious injuries.
Kennard, Fort Calhoun, Blair and Arlington fire departments responded. Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control.
Other responding agencies included Waterloo, Bennington, Valley, Omaha, Boys Town, Ponca Hills, Irvington, Ralston, Fremont Rural and Yutan fire departments, The Salvation Army, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency.
