Thursday, October 4, 1894 - The Pilot - Emma Bates
The funeral cortege of Mrs. Emma Bates passed through town to the Blair cemetery today about 1 o'clock. She was 24 years of age, was born in South Dakota and died at the home of her sister Mrs. W. R. Flynn, two miles east of Ft. Calhoun Wednesday at 12:10. She died of consumption and neglect of a worthless husband who came only once to see her before she died. Short services were held at the grave by Rev. James Sheppard, and her remains were tenderly laid away to return to dust.
