Rites for Mrs. Enger Held Here Saturday
Pioneer Nebraskan Had Lived in State Since 1873
Mrs. Christina Catherine Enger, 78, a resident of Blair since 1900 and widow of the late Frederick C. Enger, died at her home here early last Thursday. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the First Lutheran church, of which she had been a lifelong member, with the pastor, Rev. James N. Lund, officiating. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery.
As Christina Johnson, Mrs. Enger was born July 31, 1853, in Veile, Denmark, and emigrated to America with her parents in 1873, The family came westward the same year and located at West Point, Nebr., where on February 21, 1874, she was united in marriage with Mr. Enger. Six children were born to the union, three of whom died in infancy. Those surviving Mrs. Enger are Fred Enger, Herman, Mrs. Anna Sorensen, Blair, and J. R. Enger. Houston, Texas. Three brothers also survive. They are Nels Johnson and Peter Johnson of Blair and John Johnson of California. Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are also among the survivors.
Mr. and Mrs. Enger moved to Blair in 1900, the latter dying here last May, after a long illness.
