In Loving Memory of Scott S. Coenen
Born November 15, 1958 Harlan, Iowa ~ Entered Into Rest September 14, 2024 Omaha, Nebraska
Aged 65 years, 9 months, 30 days
Scott S. Coenen
November 15, 1958 – September 14, 2024
Scott was born on November 15, 1958, in Harlan, IA, to James (Jim) Coenen and Cornelia (Langenfeld) Coenen. He died peacefully surrounded by family on September 14, 2024, after a battle with cancer.
Scott moved to Omaha, NE, at a young age and attended St Pius X grade school. He then graduated with the Class of ’77 from Roncalli Catholic High School. After high school, he joined the IBEW Local 22 and went through their apprenticeship program to become a Journeyman Electrician. After working for Commonwealth Electric for a number of years, he and his brother, Shawn, started AC Electrical in Shawn’s garage. They were able to build the company up and ran a successful business until he had to retire in 2022, due to his illness.
Shortly after high school, Scott met his wife, Wendy Culbertson. They married on September 21, 1979. They would be together for the next 33 years, until she passed away January,2013. Scott did everything he could while she battled cancer and was by her side the entire time. They had three sons, Steve, Patrick, and Matthew, and grandson, Jacob. Scott was very much a family man and would do anything he could for them. Scott was the type that would be there to help anyone, no matter what the circumstance.
Scott enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He had an eye to spot random animals while on drives with his family and liked to point them out. He enjoyed being out on the water or in the mountains. It didn’t really matter where, as long as he was outdoors, he was happy. He wasn’t the type to sit around; he always wanted to be doing something productive or working with his hands. Scott’s work ethic was unmatched, although you would never hear him mention it.
Scott married Brenda Smart on June 6, 2020. They had a special connection, both having lost their spouses from their first marriages. They built a home together and there was plenty of space outside for Scott to keep busy when he wasn’t working. They had two grandsons, Landon and Levi. Scott absolutely enjoyed every moment he was able to spend with them.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, James Coenen; mother, Cornelia (Langenfeld) Coenen; wife, Wendy Coenen; and stepson, Kyle Smart. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; sons: Steve, Matthew and Patrick; stepdaughter, Jamie Piper (Nick); grandsons: Jacob Caniglia, Landon and Levi Piper; sister, Mary (Alvin) Williams; brothers: James Coenen, Jay Coenen (Jodi), Shawn (Julie); and many nieces and nephews.
