Mrs. Hineline Rites Today-Founded the Desoto Store and Post office, Moved Her in 1908
Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Lena Carolyn Hineline, widow of the late George Hineline who was a one-time well-known farmer and business man in old DeSoto. Mrs. Hineline died Sunday, February 24th at her home at 408 North Walker Avenue.
Mrs. Hineline, prior to her marriage was Lena Gutchow. She was born August 30, 1868 in Germany, coming to America with her parents many years ago. She was married to George Hineline December 25th, 1888. She and her husband built and operated the well known DeSoto store for many years and in the days of slower transportation the store did a flourishing business. The store also served as a post office.
In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Hineline gave up their operation of the store and moved to Blair. Mr. Hineline passed away in 1936.
She leaves to mourn her passing three daughter and two sons. The sons are: Clarence of Blair; and George Hineline of Concord, California. The daughters are Mrs. Mayme Klabunde, of Rockford, Ill,; Mrs. Edith Michelsen, of Weeping Water; and Mrs. Edith Hislip of Walport, Oregon. A brother, Fritz Gutschow, lives in Omaha, and a sister, Mrs. Charles P. Christensen, survives at Blair. There are six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are being held at the Campbell Mortuary with burial in the Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers are all nephews of the deceased women. They are Bert Hineline, of Florence, Jim Hineline of Kennard, Scott Hineline of Blair, and Virgil, William and Ralph of Desoto.
