John Charles Brodersen was born to Charles and Marian (Triplett) Brodersen on September 30, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at Legato Living Five Fountains in Omaha.

John graduated Tekamah High School in 1960, attended and graduated Dana College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was then selected for Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon completion, he attended Damage Control School in Philadelphia and was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS America (CVA-66) in Norfolk, Virginia. He served our country from 1965-1969. His tours included the Mediterranean and Vietnam.

While on leave, he returned to Tekamah to marry his wife, Joyce Breckenridge, on April 17, 1966. After completing his service, they returned to Herman to join his dad on the family farm where they raised farrow to finish hogs and row crops. After retirement, they continued to live on the farm until 2014 when they moved to Tekamah.

Along with farming and John Deere tractors, John enjoyed annual Minnesota fishing trips, camping, drinking coffee most mornings at the “filling station,” serving in the Herman American Legion, spending time with family and friends, and attending his five grandsons’ school activities. John will always be remembered as a friendly, kind and generous man. Even when times got tough, he genuinely enjoyed life and faced each day with a positive attitude and a smile on his face.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 58 years; two daughters: Ann (Mike) Kueny and Mary (Dave)Turner; five grandsons: Ben (Katie) Kueny, Nick Kueny, Chris Kueny, Nathan Turner, and Ryan Turner; and brother Jim (Maureen) Brodersen.
