Beverly Homes, age 94, passed away Nov. 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Graveside services will follow in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home.
Youngest of nine, Beverly Marjorie Ann Von Seggern was born on the farm of her parents, Gazena Bertha and John Henry Von Seggern, outside Scribner, NE, on April 26, 1930.
Beverly attended country school until high school. Upon graduation from Scribner High School at the age of 17, she attended Wayne State Teachers College, obtaining a teaching certificate. She taught country school, grades 1- 6, in Cuming County the next three years.
On June 25, 1950, Beverly Von Seggern married Martin Homes at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hooper. They had two daughters, Cynthia and Laurie, and lived in Blair most of their lives. Before Martin passed in 2019, they had been married for 69 years.
Beverly had been active in Blair’s First Lutheran Church, in Women’s Circles, church committees, teaching Sunday School and Bible School, and singing in the choir.
A devoted stay-at-home mother, once her children were grown, she worked as receptionist at Dr. Finn’s Optometry Office. She and Martin volunteered at the Memorial Community Hospital Rummage Sale, often being in charge of the Children's Clothing Department.
Beverly and Martin loved to travel and went to Europe, the British Isles, and many places in the U.S., including Hawaii. Beverly also enjoyed collecting and trying new recipes, creating her own twist on a recipe, entering baking contests, and often winning. She lives on through her wonderful recipes, now treasured by her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters Cynthia (David) Musick of Papillion, NE and Laurie (Steve) Harper of Omaha; grandchildren: Dr. Allison Russell (Isaac) of Papillion; Lt Col. Mark Harper (Sarah) of Stuttgart, Germany; Melissa Musick Klug (Dave) of LaVista, and Megan Harper of Waukee, Iowa. Great-grandchildren are Addison and Noah Russell; William and Elizabeth Klug, Avery Berrier, and her beloved cat, Blackie.
