Elizabeth Joann (Studeny) Madsen, 84, of Wahoo (formerly of Fremont), was called to Heaven by our Lord on Wed., Nov. 13. She was born in Colome, South Dakota, on January 13, 1940, to Adolph and Mary Studeny, who both preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Wed., Nov. 20, from 5-7 pm, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Rosary will also be Wed., Nov. 20, at 7 pm, at the church.

Funeral will be held Thur., Nov. 21, at 10:30 am, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Fremont.

Better known as “Betty” or “Grandma Betty” to many of her family, friends, co-workers and the variety of patients she took care of, Betty was always willing to help those in need.

Her zeal for life and laughter were contagious. No one in Betty’s presence was wanting for a hug or a hand to hold, especially her extensive family and those she cared for in the variety of nursing homes she worked for in Fremont.

Betty was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and volunteered for a variety of activities. The most loved of hers was being “Grandma Betty” at the Preschool where she volunteered for 10 years. Betty loved to sit on the floor and play games with her children and grandchildren. She would be the first to take out a deck of cards, or start a game, with her family and friends.

Every once in a while, when she could, she would “squirrel away” enough money to play Bingo with family and friends. Betty delighted in dancing and any opportunity to use her “Polka” moves.

Betty met the love of her life, Darrel A Madsen Sr., at a high school event, and married on August 10, 1957. They lived most of their life in Fremont. They celebrated their 67th anniversary in August with a large number of family and friends in attendance.

Betty is survived by her husband, Darrel of Wahoo; daughters and sons in law, Marcia (Jerry) Klassen of Arvada, Colo., Joanne (Ron) Zoucha of Columbus, Julie (Al) Jansa of Wahoo, Maureen (Chris) Zavadil of Fremont; sons and daughter in law, Darrel (Karen) Madsen of Newark, Ohio, Jeff Madsen and Chris Madsen, both of Fremont. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brothers and sister in law, Frank (Margaret) Studeny of Fremont, Ron Studeny of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter in law, Melinda Madsen; her sister and brother in law, John and Marie Neuman, and sisters in law, Leslie Studeny and Esther Madsen; brothers in law and sisters in law, Albert “Bud” Jr and Alice Madsen; George and Irma Bray, Earl and Lucille Wulf.

The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Preschool or the family.
