Michael was born October 10, 1962, in Wareham, MA, the son of U.S. Navy Captain Robert and Judith Ellis. Being from a military family, Mike lived in several different states, but he enjoyed living in Ford Island, Hawaii, the most.
In 1980, Mike began his conservation career by attending the University of New Hampshire majoring in Wildlife Management. In 1983 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, stationed in Bindlach, Germany, as a border patrol leader along East German and Czechoslovakian borders. Mike met and fell in love with his true soul mate, Monika, at a German-American Volksfest in 1985.
In 1987, Mike and Monika were married in Wirsberg, Germany. The couple welcomed their daughter, Loraine, and moved to the United States where Mike completed his bachelor's degree at Kansas State University. The family moved to Minnesota, where he worked at the Morris Wetland Management District; while there they welcomed their son, Brandon. They eventually moved to Blair, Nebraska, where the family remained until now.
Mike worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service giving his heart and soul to Boyer Chute and DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge. He retired in 2018. He enjoyed nature, metal detecting, and visiting family and friends in Germany and in the United States. He was a dedicated worker, honest, humble, a loving husband, and so proud of his children and grandchildren. Mike was a member of the Blair VFW.
He is survived by his wife Monika of Blair, NE; daughter Loraine (Marc) Anderson of Omaha and grandson Maximilian; son Brandon (Hallie) of Omaha and granddaughter Ashley; mother Judith Ellis; sisters Janet Ellis, sister Jackie Ellis Taft (Butch), sister Robbie Ellis Keenan (John), brother Christopher Ellis (Zekie), and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
