Rick Oleson Sundell, 59, of Benkelman, NE, passed away on February 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 8, 1965, in Omaha, NE, Rick was the beloved son of Roger and Dorothy (Dot) Sundell. He graduated from Blair High School before proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Rick was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He shared many years of marriage with his wife, Shelly, and was a devoted father to his three children, Crystal, Derrick, and Alec. He was also a cherished brother to Don, Bob, and Sheri, a beloved uncle to their children, and a dear friend to the many cousins he remained close to throughout his life.

Known for his quick wit, love of fishing, and unwavering loyalty to the Nebraska Huskers, Rick brought joy to every gathering. He had a passion for barbecuing, always ensuring family and friends were well-fed and full of laughter. His sense of humor was as infectious as his kindness — he could dish out jokes just as easily as he laughed at himself.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Shelly; his children, Crystal, Derrick, and Alec; and his cherished grandchild, Thedrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob, and his first wife, Suzy.

Rick will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held on February 24, 2025, at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home, 305 W. C St., McCook, NE 69001. Family will gather at 10 a.m., with services beginning at 11 a.m.
