Robert “Bob” Petersen, age 95, passed away peacefully Sunday March 16, 2025, at Carter Place in Blair. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Herman American Legion. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at noon. Military graveside services will be held in the Herman Cemetery.

Bob was born March 11, 1930, in Blair, Nebraska, the son of Walter and Wilma (Tietgen) Petersen. As a child he attended Gardner Country School in rural Blair with his sister Shirley. He then attended and graduated from Blair High School.

While in high school he met his future wife Colleeta Hunt while she was working at the Dairy Queen in Blair. After high school Bob was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea. While in high school Bob boxed in the Golden Gloves and later boxed in the military.

On May 10, 1952, he was united in marriage to Colleeta in Richmond, Virginia, when Bob was serving in the Army. After the wedding Bob served in Korea for 18 months. Bob was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, and then returned to work on the family farm in Herman in 1954 where they raised their four children. Bob was a lifelong farmer, raising short horn cattle and duroc hogs.

Bob was a longtime member of the Herman American Legion and the 40&8. He was a member of the Hillcreek School Board and served for many years as the president of the Washington County Mutual Insurance.

He loved coaching baseball and softball. Bob was always devoted to his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, never missing an event or game.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting in Crawford, Nebraska, at Fort Robinson with his friends, and also chasing wiley coyotes on any day after a fresh snow. Over the years Bob cherished the time traveling with Colleeta to see friends and family.

Bob is survived by his wife Colleeta Petersen; sons Kent (Carol) Petersen, Greg (Deb) Petersen; daughters Lori Wilburn and Tami (Jim) Thompson; grandchildren Gabe, Luke, Hilary, Amanda, Chelsea, Christina, Jacob, Brandon, Tyler and Briana; step-grandchildren Jim and Jennifer; great-grandchildren Ruby, Ike, Ruth, Bodie, Macy, Reece, Ella, Gus, Annabelle, Beckett, Alaric, Aubree, Crew, Kole, Kiera, Hailey, Ava and Nyra; step-great-grandchildren Chase and Casey; brother-in-law Bill Hunt, along with nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved sister Shirley (Dick) Lowe, brother-in-law Rev. Harold (Elizabeth) Hunt, brother-in-law Claude (Hazel) Hunt, sister-in-law Lydia Hunt, sister-in-law Darlene (Hugh) Burgess, father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Mattie Hunt and great-granddaughter Renee Perez.
